Claire Elise Boucher (/bu:'SeI/ boo-SHAY born on March 17 the 17th of March, 1988) is professionally known as Grimes is a Canadian singer, musician, writer, and record producer. Her range of her earlier music has been described as "lo lo R&B" and "futuristic dance-pop". The artist has used elements from hip-hop, electronic and rock. Many of her lyrics focus on sci-fi themes as well as feminist issues. There have been five albums. Grimes was born in Vancouver and later moved to Montreal. The singer began her independent career in the latter part of the in the 2000s. In 2010, she released two albums with Arbutus Records, Geidi Primes (and Halfaxa), respectively. After the signing of 4AD, she rose in fame with Visions the band's 3rd studio album. Visions includes the singles "Genesis", and "Oblivion" which earned them the Juno Award in Canada for Electronic Album of the year. Art Angels, her fourth studio record, was released in 2015. A number of publications have rated it the most successful album. Miss Anthropocene was her fifth studio album. In addition to the music industry, Grimes had a voice role in the 2020 gaming action Cyberpunk 2077 and is a judge on the music competition game show Alter Ego.
